THE GANDY CREEK
YEATS HYPERPOEM
Once upon an internet time, there was a poetry forum called Blueline, which split into New Blueline and Gandy Creek (and Gandy later become Sharpened Word.  Such is the way of the Web.)   While the fishing hole was open at Gandy, the key-holder to the bait shop took a trip over to Pennine Works, a board ran by a British cousin.

The good folk who opened Pennine were known for "hyperpoems," works written by forum members linked to a famous poem.  Pennine typically selected American poets.

In order to honor the Cousins, the key-holder at Gandy picked a poem by the  Irish poet, William Butler Yeats: Sailing to Byzantium.

A lucky 15 poets from Gandy and Pennine -  (BrokenSword (at the time, Ink Holder for Sharpened), BlueMoonRising, Carol S, Clytie, Faerhart, FFF, Gardawg (instigator at Gandy), Grasshopper, Arthur, JBell, Lucia, Owl (current Sharpened key-holder), MEHope, MeLewis, and Tina) - participated.

Follow the link and you will go to Yeat's poem.  There, lines will take you to the individual offers from the poets.

Have fun and feel free to mail Gardawg if you have any comments or suggestions.

Thank you.

Gary

January 2004 and we add a link to the new work, the Auden hyperpoem a contest at Writer's Hood

September 25, 2002 and we add two new poets:  Thomas Fortenberry and Helen Schmidt.  There are also new poems and a table of contents at The Wild Hyper.  I'll probably do a table here, but not till the next update.  The Wild is much busier.  But mail me and you could be part of either.

The 6/6/02 Additon is Dan Kantak.

LATE NEWS FOR 12/14/01:  A poet has been added - William Neill, a a Scottish poet, sent to me by Sally Evans, editor of Poetry Scotland.  As long as Homestead is affordable, we have room for more.  So please feel free to send me yours.  Simply make sure the poem contains an unused line from the Yeats.  Thanks, and thanks William and Sally.
